Dear Friends
Welcome to the Governor’s Task Force on
Waste Materials Recovery and Disposal website. Inside, you will find background
on the Task Force’s charge and its members, links to information about Task
Force meetings, an opportunity to submit testimony to the members of the Task
Force, and more. I hope you find the contents of this site useful.
Wisconsin has long been a leader
in the management of resources and of waste materials. Our statewide residential
recycling program is one of the first and finest in the country; our laws and
regulations for protecting public health and the environment from the hazards of
improper waste management have set standards for the nation; and our businesses
and industries have led the way in identifying new ways to use resources
efficiently and minimize waste.
Even so, we can do better. The amount of
waste disposed of in Wisconsin landfills
increases every year, and the makeup of that waste stream is more likely to
contain potentially harmful materials. Significant volumes of recyclable
materials that could be returned to productive use by industry are going
unrecovered. That’s why on June 15, 2005, I signed Executive Order
106 which
created the Governor’s Task Force on Waste Materials Recovery and Disposal. This
Task Force will analyze the economic and environmental interrelationships of
waste reduction, recycling, reuse, and disposal, and develop policy options and
recommendations to ensure that environmental protection and economic growth work
in tandem to continue to grow Wisconsin.
The Task Force is comprised of 19 members representing communities, companies, and
organizations from all over Wisconsin who share the goal of managing our
resources safely and efficiently, minimizing waste, and helping to keep
Wisconsin’s economy strong. We will all benefit from the committed efforts of
this group of leaders, and I thank them for their dedication and hard work. P>
Thank you for taking the time to visit this
